Telescope Clinics 2016 Two one day courses Due to the popularity of the Spring course last year we ended up adding an extra date in the Autumn. This year we start out with a Spring and an Autumn course. So...... Do you have a telescope but don’t really know how to use it properly and need some friendly advice? Have you just been given a telescope as a present or is one still sitting in its box gathering dust and you would like to learn how to use it? Well this is the course for you! Our local Astronomy Society (Wealden Astronomical Society) will be able to guide you through your telescope and help you set it up ready to begin your observations. The day will begin with an introduction about telescopes, the terminology used and the parts that make up the telescope and how they work. This will be followed by small group sessions when you get really hands-on. The early evening will be dedicated to looking through your telescope and getting to grips with what your telescope

February Half Term Children's Workshops at The Observatory Science Centre

Holiday fun for children aged 6-9 years and 10-13 years. In addition to our daily activities, during the local school holidays we also offer fantastic workshops for children which are a great way to have fun and learn at the same time. They are fully interactive; children are totally immersed in carrying out experiments or making and creating (depending on the type of workshop). Many of the workshops involve an element of 'Make and Take' projects when the children are able to take what they have made home. February Tuesday 16th - 'A Hearty Work Out!' half day You will be learning all about the heart and how it keeps you alive! You will also get your heart pumping, check out your pulse and make your own stethoscope. These are just some of the fun activities before you relax and make your own heart-warming chocolates for a belated Valentine's treat. Kids 4 a Quid at Spa Valley Railway

Running out of ideas to keep the kids from vandalising the inside of your home during a cold February half term? We have the answer (at least for half a day or so...). Break your journey at Groombridge by bringing the bikes and combine your trip with a ride along the Forest Way from Groombridge. Alternatively enjoy a winter walk around Broadwater Warren or the many footpaths which lace the surrounding countryside. Steam trains are running to the yellow timetable between Tunbridge Wells West and Groombridge, with all accompanied children aged 3-16 travelling for just £1. Children under 3 travel free, as do the family dog and the aforementioned bicycles! Adults are £9 return, and teas, coffees and assorted light snacks are available from our steam-heated bar car "Kate", and at Tunbridge Wells and Groombridge stations. You will be made very welcome!
