02/02/2012 - 05/02/2012 Celebrating world wetlands day on Thursday 02 February – free entry to all!
You’re looking out over the wetlands and everything seems peaceful; the herds of wigeon are gently whistling as they graze, the mallards are quacking and you can hear the honking of geese. Suddenly thousands, yes literally thousands, of birds take off and there are ducks and lapwings and geese whirling around the skies in a panic. For a few minutes chaos ensues – it must be a peregrine. You scan around and there she is, in hot pursuit of her prey. On this occasion she returns to her perch empty-taloned – even the fastest creature in the world sometimes finds catching her dinner hard work!
Over the winter, thousands of ducks, geese and wading birds make Pulborough Brooks their home, but so do their predators. Come along and watch the drama unfold – we’ll be here to introduce you to some of our best winter wildlife and help you enjoy the spectacle.
