Group Bookings: Facilities and Discounts
We very much welcome visits by groups. The information here is intended to give assistance to group organisers and to facilitate the enjoyment of all who visit. We will be pleased to answer any questions or requests you may have that are not covered here. Current group rates apply to pre-booked parties of 15 or more. To reduce delays for your party and other visitors, the admission price should be tendered as one payment on arrival – for other arrangements, please telephone to discuss before hand. Groups should allow at least 2 to 3 hours for their visit.
| Group prices for 2008 are: | |
| Adult and senior citizen | £4.90 per person |
| Disabled/carer | £3.25 per person |
| Child (age 5-15) | £3.00 per child |
Meals and Refreshments
Our self-service restaurant offers a wide range of meals, drinks, teas and refreshments and is fully licensed. Lunches are served between 12 noon and 2.30 pm and the lunch menu varies according to the season. We strongly advise group organisers to take advantage of our restaurant pre-booking service. By doing so, you will be assured that your group will be seated together, will avoid queuing and will receive table service, furthermore, the group menu prices are discounted so you will save money.
Guided Tours
There are guides in the house and at the watermill who will be pleased to explain the history and features. However, some groups prefer to have a formal guided tour – this facility is available by prior arrangement at £1.50 per head (20 max. per group). Please indicate on the booking form if your group members require this.
Disabled Visitors
We warmly welcome disabled visitors, along with guide dogs for the blind and hearing dogs for the deaf. Braille guides and tactile tours are available by prior arrangement. A large print version of these notes is also available. There is good access around the property – most of the garden area is flat and there are ramps where there are changes of level. Please note that there are gravel paths. There is good access to the ground floor levels of the house for wheelchairs. The first floor is not accessible to wheelchairs; however on the ground floor we do have a photograph album of the first floor exhibits and a video giving a short history of the property and views of the upstairs rooms. Wheelchair access to the Spout (lower) floor of the watermill is possible. We have a limited number of loan wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have any special requirements for your visit, please let us know and we will endeavour to assist.
Parking / Coach Driver
There is ample car and coach parking. The coach driver is admitted free and will be given a voucher for the restaurant.
Picnics
There is a designated picnic area with tables on the moat walk, five minutes walk from the car parks. We also have a dedicated disabled picnic area with tables specifically designed to accommodate wheelchairs. This is situated behind the Dovecote shop, which is close to the entrance. Within reason, rug picnics are permitted in the gardens but not near the house or on the tables provided for customers in our restaurant. We would be grateful if care could be taken not to drop litter.
Education
Our Education Department delivers an exciting and stimulating range of workshops for school parties. Tied in to the National Curriculum, they bring to life the history of Michelham through the use of artefact handling, drama and craft activities. Topics include Houses & Homes, Tudors, Victorians, and local history. For more information, please contact Alison Young, Education Officer on 01323 844000.
